learnings & takeaways
Things don’t always go as planned
Due to unforeseen circumstances with lower-than-expected participation rates, research time conflicts, and more, I had to adjust my research timeline multiple times. I learned to be comfortable with veering off the plan/embrace the discomfort of veering off the plan, and see change as an opportunity to find new strengths. With the delayed timeline, I had more time to re-evaluate my research questions and format to ensure I was getting the most out of my research efforts.
Communicating with different audiences
Whether I was presenting to other (non-design) interns, designers, or engineers, I discovered the importance of tailoring my message depending on the differing audience’s goals and knowledge. I learned to treat my presentations as design projects themselves, with the audience as my user to design for.
Design system
This was my first time working with a formal design system, which emphasized the value of establishing a consistent user experience. I explored when to use which elements depending on specific use cases, as well as how to recognize when to challenge the boundaries.
I learned more than I could have imagined from my internship experience. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to grow and learn from such talented, supportive designers.
